What followed was a spirited debate, largely between me and major HD-R/terrestrial radio apologist "RadioMan100", that continued for much of that afternoon. Even though the Racket and I had been attacked, and I was talked down to, never for a moment did I feel the posts should have been edited, moved, or deleted. While it got heated, I still thought the thread contained a good discourse. I also thought it was yet another great chance to showcase an example of how "our side" conducts itself, compared with the generally meanspirited timbre of many IBOC "Never Say Die" soldiers.
Unfortunately, the anonymous "moderator" of that board decided it was to be moved to "Take It Outside", a dumpyard of relative obscurity where threads deemed "out of hand" are sent to die. Perhaps most interestingly, despite my saying I would no longer continue participating in the thread (because few if any would see my writings), the thread then was REMOVED ALTOGETHER!
We don't know why this happened, and I wasn't sent any message of explanation (as I have in the past for similar circumstances). I figure this was either an example of an overzealous "moderator" taking offense over a postor's daring to question a decision (Roscoe also made a comment about the move), or Radio-Info's choice to suppress the information about the embarrassing sales figures of "HD" Radio at QVC by outright censoring the material. Since there frequently are testy, downright nasty and cruel comments that have been allowed to stay on that board for weeks at a time (often spanning more than several dozen posts and multiple pages), I can safely assume the decision to delete the thread started by RadioSkeptic had nothing to do with a perceived "inflammatory" problem. In fact, hundreds of posts a week are edited there with the word "inflammatory" in red text replacing the writing that was deemed unacceptable.
Since no trace of the thread remains on Radio-Info, I have painstakingly examined temporary Internet files and cached pages across three different browsers spanning two different computers to re-construct the thread as it originally appeared, almost in its entirety. (I was unable to locate the final post, which was from RadioMan100.)
I hereby invite any and all participants of the deleted thread, plus new ones who may be seeing it for the first time now, to continue the discussion in a reasonably civilized manner.
The post below contains the entire thread, minus that final message referenced above.
